Supply Chain - Shipping - Packaging JaipurJo
Shipping I use Royal Mail Tracked 48
All my postal boxes are recycled cardboard self-seal, or I use paper-based tape. Items are generally wrapped in brown paper/non-acid tissue, and I use ribbon/textiles from dead stock.
Jewellery purchases include a gift box (pink) in recycled paper – the inserts are recycled foam with a velveteen top.
Rings – packaged as a small parcel (boxed)
Earrings/pendants/bracelets – packaged as a large letter (boxed)
My ethos is to keep the packaging simple and minimal and that what is inside the box is what really matters
My Partners
Jewellery Jaipur Gems.
All my jewellery is made in Jaipur. They use Stirling silver as the base metal and where gold is used with 18 carat gold plating. The gemstones are hand cut. My supplier is a member of RJC, Responsible Jewellery Council.
To keep your items looking their absolute best avoid swimming or showering whilst wearing and avoid soaps, perfumes and creams. Use a polishing cloth to keep up the shine and remove dirt. Due to hygiene reasons, I cannot accept earing jewellery returns.
Handmade items – stoles/shawls/belts/kantha/bags
Small/Medium/Large packaging Royal Mail Tracked 48
Most of my stock is handmade – for this reason you do sometimes get slight irregularities in weave, colour and texture. This is part of the charm; most items take days if not weeks to produce. They are produced in village areas of rural India – the production is almost net zero apart from travel to the UK, I do my best to keep sustainability at the forefront when I am working with artisans. I do not drive down on price. I work with a Women’s co-operative that helps to support them and their children and with a 4th generation weaver from Kutch. I respect their craft and so items are priced accordingly.
Materials
Most materials used are tussar wild silk, kala cotton, desi wool and jute. The dyes are all-natural plant/vegetable based. To care for these items, a cold/cool wash with gentle detergent, hand/air dried away from sunlight is best. The fibres are exceptionally strong and hand spun, but heat and chemicals are not their friends.
Kala Cotton is indigenous from Kutch and grows well without too much water, it is sustainable and organic and grown without fertilizers, it is coarse but breathable and eco-friendly
Desi Wool again is indigenous to Kutch and is robust - it keeps the body cool in summer and warm in winter, It’s the ultimate cross seasonal piece. My 4th generation weaver does use Merino wool which he sources from Australia which is of a very high quality. Pashminas are sourced from Kashmir and are hand-loomed. The wool is spun by hand and comes from indigenous goats.
Jute is extremely eco-friendly and comes from the greenest of natural fibres – Corchorus plant. It is completely biodegradable, renewable and durable. Although durable, they are highly absorbent so protect from wet weather as they can shed.
GOTs cotton – my quilts are 100% eco cotton and stitched using hand kantha style. They are beautiful to look at but it is the feel that makes them special. Again, cool wash with gentle detergent to prolong.
Tussar Silk/Peace – the silk comes from wild silkworms who live naturally in the forest rather than farmed. The workers wait for the silkworm to complete its life cycle and hatch. The hatching breaks the fibres, so it is spun rather than reeled. The feel is more rustic and textured compared to mulberry silk.
Thank you for supporting my small business.
